A 42-year-old teacher has been shot dead by her ex-husband in front of her primary school pupils before killing himself in Saldanha, West Coast, South Africa. According to News24 reports, the police heard about the shooting at 07:20 on Wednesday morning and officers went to the school where they found a woman’s body in the parking area. The Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said they found the body of a man on a road near the school. He had a wound to the head. Provincial education MEC Debbie Schäfer confirmed that the dead woman was a teacher at the school. “The teacher was allegedly shot by a male perpetrator who is reportedly her ex-spouse. The perpetrator is reported to have then turned the gun on himself. A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, quoted the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, as saying that sexual harassment remains a serious offence contrary to the anti-sexual harassment policy of the institution. The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, says it will include farming and crop production as part of the one year primary assignment for corps members from the next service year. The NYSC FCT Coordinator, Bello Ballama said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja on Thursday. He said that the move was to help address corps members’ rejection by some employers, through the engagement of more corps members in all aspects of farming and crop production. The coordinator said that the move was also aimed at boosting the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, Programme.
